Join a Team That Makes a Difference in Higher Education

  • Two Industrial Officer Roles Available – One Fixed-Term, One Casual
  • Plus 17% Employer Superannuation

The National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU) Queensland Division is currently looking for two passionate Industrial Officers to join our team based at our Taringa office. These roles offer the chance to work directly with university staff across Queensland and to play a meaningful role in supporting the rights and conditions of those working in higher education.

We’re offering:

  • One full-time fixed-term position (until April 2026)
  • One casual position (duration to be determined)
  • Additional employer superannuation of 17%
  • A chance to make a real impact alongside committed and values-driven colleagues

Who We Are

The NTEU is a federally registered, member-led union representing academic and general staff across the higher education sector. Our members work in all Queensland universities, as well as in associated research institutes, student organisations, and education companies.

We are deeply committed to equity, inclusion, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander self-determination. We strongly encourage Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants and provide opportunities to work closely with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members and staff. We’re proud to have a longstanding employment strategy (currently under review) that supports this commitment.

What the Role Involves

This is a varied and fast-paced role where no two days are the same. You’ll:

  • Support and coordinate industrial and organising campaigns
  • Provide members with advice, support and training on workplace rights and conditions
  • Negotiate collective agreements and represent members in disputes
  • Appear before tribunals and participate in university-level negotiations

You’ll also be required to travel regularly to campuses throughout Queensland to meet with members and engage with local issues.

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience
  • A strong understanding of trade union values and organising principles
  • Experience in negotiating workplace agreements and advocating before tribunals
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
  • A current driver’s licence

It would be great if you also had some knowledge of the higher education sector and basic IT skills (especially word processing), but these aren’t essential.

Salary

Your salary will depend on your level of experience:

  • Level 6: $112,275 to $123,082 FTE
  • Level 7: $127,409 to $140,667 FTE
  • 17% employer superannuation
